ALEXANDRIA | Campbell County shot nearly 57 percent from the field helping lead it to a 75-44 home victory over Mason County on Saturday. The Lady Camels jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never trailed in the contest.
Mason County (10-11) scored the final six points to close to within three by the end of the first period. Campbell County (15-7) began to separate itself for good behind a 9-0 run over a stretch of one minute and 47 seconds in the middle of the second quarter to claim a 29-15 edge. The Lady Camels extended the margin as high as 17 points before settling for a 39-24 lead at intermission.
Mason County’s Milyn Henry opened the second half with a 3-pointer that cut the deficit to 12. But from that point, Campbell County answered by scoring the next 14 points. The hosts held the Lady Royals to just two points in the final three minutes and 40 seconds of the quarter as they built a 64-34 advantage.
The margin hit 35 points (71-36) with 5:36 to play before eventually settling at 31.
Campbell County held a signifiant edge in field-goal shooting (56.9 percent to 32.7 percent) and in rebounding (39-24). Mason County also converted just 42.9 percent of its foul shots.
Four Lady Camels scored in double digits, led by Mallory Holbrook with 18. Hope Russell contributed 13, while Kylie Koeninger and Jaylyn Jackson each tallied 11. Gracie Holland and Haley Turner paced the victors with eight rebounds apiece.
Mason County’s Emma Taylor had 15 of her 17 points in the first half, while teammate Haley White finished with 11. Rachel Payne topped the Lady Royals with eight rebounds.
