FLEMINGSBURG | Fleming County led from wire-to-wire en route to claiming a 56-43 home win over Harrison County on Thursday.
The hosts opened the game on a 10-0 run and did not allow the Fillies to score until 2:35 remained in the first quarter. The Lady Panthers finished the opening period with a 16-5 lead and then stretched it to 25-10 by halftime. Fleming County (2-0) held Harrison County scoreless for the final 2:15 of the first half.
The Lady Panthers began the first three minutes and 56 second of the third quarter on a 9-2 run to surge to a 24-point advantage. At that point, Harrison County (0-2) began battling back and eventually cut the margin down to 15 points (43-28) by the end of the third period.
The hosts pushed the lead back up to 21 at 51-30 with 6:05 remaining in the contest. The Fillies mustered one last charge and closed within 10 (53-43) with 1:45 to play. However, it was the final points the visitors would score as the game ended with a 13-point differential.
Fleming County finished with 50-44 edge in rebounding and committed eight fewer turnovers (16 to 24).
Sidney Argo led all scorers with 19 points. Lady Panther teammate Krishani Jackson added 15 points, while Caroline Price chipped in nine. Argo and Jackson tied for team-high honors in rebounding with eight apiece. Bailey Lewis corralled seven boards.
Kara Hines came off the bench to lead the Fillies. She finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Gab Hatterick contributed 10 points and eight rebounds, while Katelin Ecklar finished with nine points and eight boards. Elizabeth Allison grabbed six rebounds.
The Lady Panthers return to action on Saturday when it will play Franklin County in the Lady Royals Showcase at Mason County.
