2018 Preseason
1. Montgomery County (15-8-0) – The difference between Montgomery County, East Carter, Rowan County and Calvary Christian is miniscule. All four teams have four members of the 1016sports’ Terrific 26 to Watch list and won 15 or more games last season. What puts the Indians on top is that they have skilled players in all grades and no one brings back more elite talent in the sophomore class. Midfielders Colton Covix and Mason Hammonds, forwards Pruitt Landsdale and Giovanni Lopez, and defender Austin Stigall all contributed last fall and figure to return bigger, stronger and better with that experience. The squad also has returning two-year starters in senior midfielders Ean King and Daniel Shelton, and senior defender Jacob Toy, as well as senior goalkeeper Danny Hernandez who was a starter last season. Add to those eight junior forward Mason Anderson and the Indians have an edge against the rest of the field. Twelve players off last season’s club, which won the team’s seventh consecutive district title and out-scored its opponents 75-30, are gone. However, coach Nick Pannell does return 19 members from that squad, which is the most among the four elite teams.
