2016 Preseason
1. Russell (8-4) – The Red Devils feature a squad full of talent in both the senior and junior classes. Russell is coming off a second-round appearance in the state tournament, but returns senior running back Nick Conley, who gained over 1,100 yards rushing last fall. Besides quarterback, the team returns nearly every other key offensive skill player, including seniors Maxx Blackburn, Landon Brewer, Austin Brinkman, Drew Boehm, and Evan Ison, and juniors Nick Caldwell and Ryan Stump. That group will also comprise much of the defensive backfield. Last season’s Red Devils were stout on defense, allowing just under 184 yards per game. Senior Jacob Pierce and junior Tucker Brown are back to anchor both the offensive and defensive lines. One of the area’s top soccer players, junior Sam Ewing, will take over the kicking duties, leaving just the signal caller as the primary position still to be filled. A trio of Red Devils who return saw varsity action there last season, with Austin Church as the most experienced of the three.
