2019 Preseason
1. Campbell County (24-13) – Coach Kennedy Berkley’s Lady Camels are coming off a state semifinal finish, which matches the best post-season mark in program history. Campbell graduated six of its top 10 players from last season, but does return key performers in senior outside hitter Kasey Martin (5.3 kills per match, 5.3 blocks per match, 0.4 service aces per match), junior middle blocker/right-side hitter Olivia Crowl (5.6 kpg, 4.2 bpm) and sophomore right-side hitter Rylee McKinney (4.5 kpg, 2.1 bpm). Coach Berkley will draw from her five newcomers and four other returnees to find replacements for the seven graduates who combined for over 50 percent of the kills, 90 percent of the digs and 30 percent of the blocks. The Lady Camels biggest losses come on defense and in passing. A replacement will also need to be found for setter Lauren Vinyard. Junior Ella Schloemer and sophomore Anna Vroegindewey will vie to capture the starting job. Senior outside hitter/defensive specialist Hope Russell also returns after playing a key role in 2018. Junior right-side hitter/outside hitter Natalie Smith and junior defensive specialist/libero Madison Pond will be expected to take on more significant roles as well. The Northern Kentucky schools have always dominated area volleyball, so despite the losses to graduation Campbell County still figures to headline the 1016sports’ group. Harrison County also had significant numbers of graduates, while Scott is looking to bounce back from an uncharacteristically poor season. Both figure to provide the best challenge to the Lady Camels, while 16th Region foes Russell and Rowan County will headline those from the Eastern part of the state.
