2019 Preseason
1. Montgomery County (17-4-1) – Despite the fact that the Indians graduated three all-state players, coach Nick Pannell’s group is again the preseason’s No. 1 team. Goalkeeper Danny Hernandez (1st team All-East), and midfielders Ean King (honorable mention All-East) and Daniel Shelton (honorable mention All-East) are gone, but Pannell has 20 returnees, including three members of “1016sports’ Terrific 26 to Watch”: senior forward Mason Anderson, junior forward Pruitt Lansdale and junior defender Austin Stigall back from the 10th Region champions. Like the three aforementioned graduates, Anderson was an honorable mention All-East selection. Montgomery County has been anchored by the class which is currently entering its junior year. Forward Giovanni Lopez; midfielders Colton Covix, Chris Detassis, and Mason Hammonds; defenders Jacob Boston and Trey Lambert; and goalkeepers Tyson Morton, Mason Crouch and Jared Boston all are members of that group. The Indian juniors have won 32 games in their two seasons. The senior class is small, only Anderson, midfielder Garrett Craycraft and defender Jaydon Potts make up the group, so Montgomery County figures to be a force again in 2020. As a whole, boys’ soccer in the area figures to be down this season with so many squads being hit hard by graduation, but there are a few teams like East Carter who should be a contender for area supremacy.
