FLEMINGSBURG | Host Fleming County rallied from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Greenup County 67-65 Monday night and pick up its third win in its last four games.
Micah Hinton came off the bench to lead the rally, including following up an offensive rebound with what turned out to be the game-winning layup with 2.5 seconds to play. Hinton finished with 10 points and four rebounds, all of which came in the second half.
Greenup County (5-22) led for all but just under one minute of action in the first quarter and stretched its advantage as high as 14 points (42-28) with 4:42 to play in the third period.
Fleming County (5-20) trailed by six points at halftime after Caroline Price sank a 3-pointer four seconds before the break. The visitors pushed the margin to nine at 55-46 by the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Panthers started the final period on an 11-3 run drawing within one point at 58-57 after Sidney Argo completed a three-point play with 4:20 remaining. Two minutes and 17 seconds later, Argo converted a layup off an offensive rebound to give the hosts their first lead since late in the first quarter.
Greenup County regained control after a Maggie Miller layup with 1:15 to play. Hinton scored the final four points of the night off a pair of offensive rebounds, with 54.8 seconds and 2.5 seconds left on the clock, respectively.
The Lady Musketeers won the rebounding battle 45-33, took 16 more free throws than Fleming County, but were only able to convert 58.6 percent of their attempts. The Lady Panthers committed just 11 turnovers to Greenup County’s 16.
Argo led Fleming County with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Krishani Jackson added 19 points and eight steals to the winning effort. Lauren Hannah paced Greenup County with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
