Welcome to 1016SPORTS.COM
COvering Kentucky High School Sports in the 10th and 16th Regions
Welcome to the 2016 relaunch of 1016sports. My name is Brad Laux (pronounced LOCKS) and I am a freelance writer who has covered high school sports for various magazines as well as numerous newspapers in Northeastern Kentucky for over 10 years. The primary focus of my attention has been on schools in the 10th and 16th Regions, hence the website’s name: 1016sports.
I’ve operated this site in various forms over the last several years, but when my previous platform ihigh.com went out of business this summer I returned to weebly.com to host the site.
My goal is to cover three to five high school competitions each week and upload a brief story, statistics, photos and video interviews from each event. For the eight team sports, I also produce weekly rankings as well as select preseason and postseason all-1016sports teams. In addition, I select a Player of the Week (chosen from the events I attended).
Other site features include a calendar of events, podcasts, viewer polls, announcements, archives, links to each school’s personal website, and a store where photos and videos can be purchased.
There are currently 33 schools in the two regions, with Ashland’s Holy Family slated to enter the 16th next fall. I have also included Wolfe County in the mix because I cover the Wolves for their local paper.
I also have a twitter account @1016sports and a Facebook page 1016sports. I plan to update both before and after each event I attend.
1016sports.com is not intended to compete against local newspapers, but to compliment their sports coverage, doing so with a focus on all of Northeastern Kentucky. I encourage everyone to support his or her local paper and school photographers, as well as The Cats’ Pause, for which I write basketball preseason previews for the 10th Region.
For now 1016sports is a work in progress. At present, I make no money off the site. Therefore if you like what I’m doing and wish to support my venture, advertisers are welcome. I also could use all of the help I can get, so if you wish to contribute stories, photos, statistics, etc., I’d be glad to have them. If you’d like to reach me, my email is [email protected].
Thanks again for your support of 1016sports.com. Feel free to give me your feedback.
