2022 Preseason
1. East Carter (18-2-2) – The Lady Raiders return the bulk of a loaded lineup that captured the 16th Region title last fall. An offensive juggernaut, ECHS averaged 4.9 goals per game (15th best in the state), while allowing just 1.1 gpg (21st best), as it cruised through the regular season suffering its lone loss due to a Covid-19 cancellation. The scoring margin of 3.8 gpg was 11th in the KHSAA’s state statistics. Seventeen of the 24 members of the 2021 squad are back this season and just three of the seven departees were letter winners. Four who will again wear the school’s colors this fall have been named to the “1016sports’ Terrific 26 to Watch” team. That group includes junior midfielder Emersyn Elliott (23 goals, 26 assists, 72 points), sophomore forward Ellie Thomas (29 goals, 12 assists, 70 points), sophomore midfielder Savannah Adams (six goals, 14 assists, 26 points) and sophomore goalkeeper Brayleigh Boggs (2.8 saves per game, 0.9 goals against average). Last fall, Elliott tied for sixth in the state in assists, while Thomas was named the 1016sports’ “Newcomer of the Year.” On the whole, the Lady Raiders are very young. Only three of the 28 players on the roster are seniors. They will be joined by 11 newcomers.. Coach Tyler Walker’s squad had a short stay in the state post-season tourney after getting routed by West Jessamine in the opening round, but that experience should be beneficial looking forward. Over the last two years, the Lady Raiders are 29-3-3, including finishing 11-1-1 in 2020, when the team suffered its lone defeat in the 16th Region championship game (1-0 to Russell). In addition to the four “Players to Watch”, coach Walker’s club features key returnees in senior defenders Lynnsey Bush (21 games) and Rubie Johnson (21 games), and a quintet of sophomores: forward/midfielder Kinsley Rutledge (16 games, six goals, two assists, 14 points), midfielder Canyessee Kiser (20 games), defender/midfielder Madelyn Moore (21 games), and defenders Olivia Seasor (21 games) and Addison Tiller (21 games). The Lady Raiders will have to replace 1016sports’ “Unsung Hero of the Year” and 16th Region Tournament MVP Maci Moore (21 games, five points), midfielder Avery Hall (14 goals, 11 assists 39 points), forward/midfielder Darian Wallace (13 goals, five assists, 31 points), and forward Isabella Poskas, who tallied seven points despite playing in just 10 games. So, filling those holes will provide a challenge and likely be coach Walker’s greatest concern. Last year, ECHS surrendered three or four goals three times. The team has demonstrated its ability to score, but bolstering its defense and keeping elite teams off the board will be key to making another deep post-season run. Campbell County, Russell, Fleming County, Bishop Brossart and George Rogers Clark are all contenders to dethrone East Carter.
