2016-17 Preseason
1. Paris (24-6) – Last winter, Paris won its first regional tournament game in 29 years and posted its first 20-win campaign since 1998-99. In spite of graduating five players, including all-region performers and four-year starters Koebe Garrard and James Clark, coach Terence Brooks’ Greyhounds enter the 2016-17 season as 1016sports’ team to beat. A bevy of lethal weapons in the backcourt, headlined by juniors Eric Johnson (9.8 points per game) and Marcus Ashford (6.9 ppg), and seniors Tayjin Cunningham (6.5 ppg), Ryan Davis (5.2) and Jordan Davis (4.2), will be a handful for opponents. The team’s top all-around player is senior wing Jekobi Wells (12.4 ppg, 8.0 rebounds per game). With its speed, athleticism, offensive discipline and depth, the Greyhounds should be among the top-scoring teams in the state. If Brooks can get the squad to play to its potential on defense and get some production in the paint, the Greyhounds could be among the state’s most dangerous teams entering the postseason.
