2018 Preseason
1. Russell (10-10-0) – Despite posting a .500 campaign, the Red Devils are 1016sports’ top preseason squad for the second straight year. Coach John Perry’s club labored throughout the 2017 season, but the Red Devils were firing on all cylinders by the postseason and advanced to the state quarterfinals. Just as last year, this team is loaded offensively. A key couple of individuals have transferred out of the program, but the Red Devils still are a juggernaut with the ball, having averaged 3.55 goals per game last fall. Five of the individuals who tallied more than two goals last season return: Senior forward/midfielder Taylor Stamper (17 goals, 5 assists), senior forward Kynidee Allen (16 goals, 10 assists), senior forward Kylie Busick (13 goals, 6 assists), junior midfielder Georgia Arrington (7 goals, 16 assists) and senior midfielder Abigail Keeton (4 goals, 9 assists). Junior forward/midfielder Ainsley Bender, senior defender/midfielder Abby Satterwhite and junior defender Renae Keeton also return having started or played in nearly every game last season. Entering the 2017 campaign, the team’s top concern was who would play in the net. That question was answered successfully and senior Mercedes Maupin (1.6 GAA) returns to hold down the position. The Red Devils are back-to-back 16th Region champions and are in great position to make that three in a row. East Carter, Rowan County and George Rogers Clark also feature talented lineups and will be major threats to dethrone Russell.
