rowan needs five sets to down greenup
MOREHEAD | Host Rowan County trailed in three of the first four sets, but still managed to rally to defeat Greenup County 25-23, 23-35, 25-8, 23-25, 25-8 on Wednesday. The victory extended the Valkyries home winning streak to 10 matches, including a 7-0 mark this fall.
Greenup County (12-18) led 22-16 in the first set, but Rowan County (23-8) scored seven straight points to pull out the victory. In the second set, the Valkyries trailed 6-1 and eventually by as many as six points, before clawing back to tie the score at 15-15. The score was tied again at 21-21, before the Lady Musketeers, who never fell behind in the set, claimed the win.
Rowan County surged to a 16-2 advantage in the third set, including tallying 13 straight points. The visitors closed within 11 three times late before the Valkyries finished the set with a 6-0 run.
Greenup County jumped out to a 4-point lead in the fourth set, before three straight kills from the hosts knotted the score at 8-8. Rowan County moved in front 17-13, but a 6-1 Lady Musketeer run turned the lead back in the visitors’ favor. The score was tied one final time at 21-21, before Greenup County finished off the set on a Kennah Griffith kill.

Brashear led the Valkyries with 15 kills, while Christina Grimes added five service aces. Griffith paced the Lady Musketeers with 12 kills and five aces.
